Located in the city of Szczecin, the plot begins with the discovery of a body in a river that has just thawed. The detective Katarzyna Zawieja takes the case, without imagining that he will run into a family drama: the victim is the prosecutor’s daughterwho had just become a mother.
As he tracks down the missing newborn, Zawieja also faces his own tragedy: her husband’s suicide. The series intensely connects police work with personal wounds, building a complex and human protagonist.
As the investigation progresses, secrets emerge involving public figures, family members and colleagues. With a somber narrative, “The Thaw” reflects on corruption, justice and the emotional scars left by the past.
