Hollywood star Sean Penn is among the thousands of people fleeing the war in Ukraine to Poland.
US star Sean Penn (61) was until recently in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv to film a documentary about Russia’s violent invasion. Penn gave a quick update on how he’s doing and where he’s at right now. According to this, he was able to escape from the massively bombed city and, like so many people, is on his way to Poland.
Regarding a picture of Penn carrying a trolley case and backpack, the Oscar winner wrote: “Me and two colleagues walked miles to the Polish border after leaving our car on the side of the road.” They marched past a seemingly endless queue of cars: “In almost all of the cars there are only women and children, in most of them there is no trace of luggage and the car is their only possession of value.”
He has been working on the documentary since November
, which showed him last Thursday after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He is working there on a documentary that is supposed to tell the “truth about what happened”.
The Office of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (44) commented that Penn shows “courage and honesty”. He attended a press conference held by government officials. He spoke to journalists and military officials to learn more about Ukraine’s defense strategy.
He had already traveled to Ukraine in November and had already spoken to the military to work on the planned documentary. On February 24, Russian forces launched a broad-based attack on Ukraine.
