Ukraine War: Sean Penn fled to Poland on foot
“Two colleagues and I walked miles to the Polish border after leaving our car on the side of the road,” he wrote alongside a picture of himself holding a trolley suitcase. To see next to him: A long line of standing cars. “Almost all the cars in this photo are occupied only by women and children, most of them have no luggage and the car is their only valuable,” explained the Hollywood star.

Penn traveled to the country last week to film a documentary about the Russian invasion. Last Thursday, he attended a press conference held by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose office later released a statement thanking the actor and filmmaker. The statement also said the 61-year-old interviewed Ukrainian politicians, military officials and journalists.

“Historical Symbols of Courage”
Penn tweeted on Saturday: “It’s already a brutal mistake that has taken lives and broken hearts and if he doesn’t back down, I believe Mr Putin made a terrible mistake for all of humanity.” He also found words of praise for the government in Ukraine and the citizens. “President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people have risen as historic symbols of courage and principle. Ukraine is the spearhead for the democratic embrace of dreams. If we allow it to fight alone, our soul as America is lost,” he said .
According to the Reuters news agency, citing a spokeswoman in Los Angeles, Penn made it safely out of Ukraine.
