JK Rowling: Author critical of trans law

Joanne K. Rowling has done it again: The “Harry Potter” author commented controversially on Twitter about a transsexuality law.

Joanne K. Rowling (56) polarized again with a tweet about transsexuality. for journalist Susan Dalgety, who criticized a proposed Scottish gender reassignment law.

The background: Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon (51) introduced the Gender Recognition Reform Bill to the Scottish Parliament. It is intended to complement the UK-wide Gender Recognition Act 2004. The law aims to facilitate gender reassignment for trans people. Medical and psychiatric reports are to be omitted.

JK Rowling-backed journalist Dalgety feared that “violent, abusive men” will “exploit” the change in the law. By men, she also means the “pedophiles” who “stole her soul.”

Rowling shares controversial article

Rowling retweeted the article, citing a statement by Social Affairs Secretary Shona Robison. She had tried in Parliament to allay fears like Dalgety’s. There is no evidence that male criminals have ever pretended to be a woman in order to sexually abuse other women.

“The most harrowing, heartfelt and courageous response to Shona Robison’s amazing claim yet,” Rowling wrote in the retweet. As a woman who was also abused, she sends greetings.

New law will bring male rapists to women’s prison?

The writer specified her request. “The law will harm the most vulnerable women in society: those seeking help after male violence and the women incarcerated,” Rowling wrote. “Statistics show that incarcerated women are already far more likely to have been abused.”

The reference to imprisoned women is explained by an early statement by Rowling. She had criticized the fact that sex offenders in Scotland will in future be left to choose which gender they identify with. So biological men who raped women could end up in women’s prisons.

Rowling’s statement was met with criticism on Twitter. It’s not the first time that the writer has received a shit storm for allegedly transphobic statements. “Harry Potter” stars like Daniel Radcliffe (32) and Emma Watson (31) have therefore publicly distanced themselves from her. Trans activists refer to them as TERF (Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminism). So as a feminist who doesn’t recognize transgender women.
