In 2020 and 2021, the trade fair was only held as a purely digital event due to the corona. In 2022, the organizers, Kölnmesse GmbH and the Game industry association, are now opting for a mixed form. From August 24th to 28th, the exhibition halls will have the mixture of trade visitor and public areas known from the pre-pandemic years. There are also various live streams online, including the opening gala on the evening of August 23rd. It is still unclear whether and what access restrictions there are – but a hygiene and safety concept “in line with the currently applicable legal regulations” is promised.
Gamescom is the world’s largest consumer fair for digital games. In 2019, the last year before the corona pandemic, a total of 370,000 visitors came to Cologne over the five days of the fair.
