“The Adam Project”: Ryan Reynolds stays in his comfort zone in the new Netflix

The film directed by shawn levy (FreeGuy) is a comedic time travel adventure riddled with identifiable cultural references. It should be remembered that Levy was one of the minds behind “Stranger Things”which shows that he is in a field that he knows well, that of adventures.

According to Levy “I didn’t want to make a time travel movie that was too sci-fi oriented” and it shows. Time travel is an excuse to be able to make a film that speaks more about the relationship of a father and son(s). There’s a bit of Return to the futurewith hints of Terminators 2with things from starwars.

The hook has already been seen in several science fiction productions, something that until Jorge Luis Borges has fantasized in his 1972 short story “The other”the meeting of one with his younger version, in this case the Adam of 2050 (Ryan Reynolds) will travel to 2022 to meet his 12-year-old version (newcomer Walker Scobell) and together they will embark on the search for their deceased father.

The cast is completed with Jennifer Garner as Adam’s mother, and Mark Ruffalo As the father. For the nostalgic it is a good move, surely everyone remembers them for starring “I wish I was 30” of 2004. To them is added Zoe Saldana as Laura, the wife of the 2050 Adam and Catherine Keener as the villain of the day.

In short, “The Adam Project” results in good family entertainment, ideal to enjoy a weekend afternoon. He could have given a little more, since from his premise he had that possibility, but as happens with his protagonist, he chooses to navigate calm waters where comfort is sometimes confused with a lack of ambition.
