66th Song Contest: Ukraine’s participation in Turin confirmed

The ESC edition in the northern Italian city should be dedicated to world peace, the organizers said, according to the Roman daily “Il Messaggero” (Tuesday edition). “The Ukrainian delegation was able to meet all the deadlines. They are in the process of shooting a back-up video for their performance in case the delegation or parts of it cannot be present in Turin,” said the person responsible for the ESC Manager of RAI, Simona Martorelli.

The ESC is already heavily influenced by the Ukraine war. So Kalush Orchestra moved up for the original candidate Alina Pash. The background was open questions about a trip by the singer to the Crimean peninsula annexed by Russia in 2015. Russia was excluded from this year’s song contest by the ESC organizer after the invasion of Ukraine.

LUM!X and Pia Maria will represent Austria in Turin in 2022 with “Halo”. The two semi-finals are scheduled for May 10th and 12th, the grand finale will take place on May 14th. In addition to the Italian TV presenter Alessandro Cattelan, the two pop stars Mika and Laura Pausini act as moderators.
