Berner Group: Six million euros for high-bay warehouse in Braunau

The German family company Berner increased sales in the 2020/21 financial year by 1.2 percent to 1.061 billion euros. Because the trading company based in Künzelsau near Heilbronn has a fiscal year that differs from the calendar year (balance sheet date March 31), all three corona waves had to be survived in one fiscal year, company boss Christian Berner said in a broadcast yesterday, Wednesday. Demand was driven by the construction and chemical sectors.

Around six million euros are currently being invested in the headquarters of the Austrian subsidiary in Braunau. In June, the ground-breaking ceremony took place there for a logistics center including a high-bay warehouse with 5500 pallet spaces and fully automatic storage and retrieval. The logistics center was last expanded in 2012. 5500 parcel shipments with a total weight of 60 tons leave the company premises every day.

The Bernese subsidiaries in the eastern region are supplied and controlled from Braunau. These include markets such as Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the Baltic States. Austria’s managing director is Wolfgang Sageder. “Austria naturally has a special role within the Bern Group as the fulcrum for the Eastern European countries,” says company spokeswoman Alexandra Hangl. Berner employs around 500 people in Austria. Almost half of them work at the Braunau site, the rest work in field sales across Austria.

The headquarters of the Group’s Austrian company has been located in Braunau for many years. The family business started selling consumables, tools and chemical products as early as 1957. In 1969 the Austrian subsidiary was added. The group of companies now has 8,500 employees and branches in 25 countries.
