“The Batman”, reveal a deleted scene of Barry Keoghan’s Joker

“I thought he would be very insecure about this and would probably want to find some way to get into the mentality [de Riddler]like in ‘Manhunter’ or ‘Mindhunter’: this idea of profiling someone, so you can predict their next move,” Reeves said.

The filmmaker liked the idea of suggesting to the audience that Gotham City is riddled with villains right at the end of the story, and that Keoghan’s Joker is one of the first enemies Batman captures.

“Almost our anniversary, isn’t it?” Joker tells Batman at the scene.

Reeves noted, “You realize they have a relationship, and this guy obviously did something, and Batman somehow got him into Arkham.”

Batman presses Joker for the reasons why the Riddler is doing what he is doing and why he is leaving Batman notes on all of his crimes.

“Maybe he’s a fan of yours?” says the joker. “Or maybe he has a grudge against you too. Maybe you’re the main course.”

The scene builds to Joker taunting Batman with the unsettling truth that there is a part of him that agrees with the Riddler’s decision to dispatch Gotham City’s leaders mired in corruption.

“I think somewhere, deep down, you’re terrified, because you’re not sure I’m wrong,” Joker says, dissolving into laughter.
