Chinese Streaming Platforms Remove Keanu Reeves Movies Over His Support For Tibet

It is no secret that Hollywood has a complicated relationship with China, prone to anxious negotiations by the former to export its films in what is currently the most substantial foreign market in the world. While Reeves’ presence at the 35th Tibet House benefit concert did not directly affect the arrival of Matrix Resurrections to the Chinese billboard, according to the Los Angeles Times, it has done so to other films starring the actor. In this way, Reeves’ filmography has been removed from virtually all of the Asian giant’s streaming platforms.

This includes iQiyi, Tencent Video, Bilibili, Xiga Video, Youku or Migu Video. You can no longer watch Reeves movies on Chinese platforms, such as the sagas of The Matrix, John Wick and The Amazing Adventures of Bill and Ted, The Lake House or When You Least Expect It. There are 19 films in total, although there is one curious exception: Toy Story 4where Reeves voiced Duke Caboom.

In the credits of Toy Story 4as can be seen on Youku and Migu Video, when we arrive at Reeves’ position, the voice cast changes to Chinese, avoiding any mention of the actor.

It is unknown if this situation with Keanu Reeves has been a matter of the government or of the streaming platforms themselves, in a proactive measure.
