Guerrera stated that “the arrival of the last cruise ship to the Port of Buenos Aires for this 2021/2022 season crowns a record summer that was key to boosting the country’s tourism and production sector in a post-pandemic context that required full articulation between various ministries to guarantee the development of a key activity in this recovery process that Argentina is going through”.
“In this framework, the work carried out by the Ministry of Transportation through the different agencies was central so that the arrival of foreign tourists does not cease and the gears of trade, entrepreneurship and job creation in various regional economies are invigorated. ”, he added.
After the arrival of the ship, the national authorities delivered a commemorative plaque to the captain of the cruise ship, Joergen Cardesting. Participating on behalf of the Ministry of Transport, Sergio Gargano, General Director of Institutional Relations; and Nuri Teresita Sánchez Edorna, National Director of Control of Ports and Waterways. Buenos Aires was consolidated as the entry hub to our country, transporting people of different nationalities, providing foreign currency income and generating federal development, connecting Buenos Aires with other ports such as Puerto Madryn and Ushuaia.
The port authorities worked together to restart the activity and offer various possibilities to both tourists and companies in our country, with the coordination of the Ministry of Transport.
“It was a great effort, in an activity that requires a lot of planning and foresight, to be able to reactivate cruise tourism in our country. With the coordination of Minister Guerrera, we managed to articulate with officials from different provinces and carry out a scheme that allowed tourists to enjoy everything that Argentina has to offer,” said the AGP comptroller, José Beni.
In this sense, the Ministry of Transportation, in conjunction with the AGP, implemented the 100% rebate in concepts of general rates for use of the port and passenger fees that were previously charged to incoming ships. In addition, with the aim of promoting tourism, the national portfolio discounted 99.5% in the toll rate on the Main Navigable Way to international tourism cruise ships, during the 2021-2022 season.
The season began on November 12 of last year, with the arrival of the World Navigator cruise ship from the United States, which arrived at the Port of Buenos Aires for the first time, as did the Viking Octantis cruise ship.
Finally, at the country level, more than 200 landfalls were made with more than 20,000 passengers who arrived at the ports of Buenos Aires, Madryn and Ushuaia.
