Sandra Ohms is the new Chairwoman of the Folk Song Works

She replaces both the previous Chairwoman Christa Bumberger and President Elisabeth Freundlinger, whose function will no longer exist in the future. “I will be happy to do this job because I felt that I was needed,” said Ohms. The 40-year-old from Gmunden, who works full-time as an editor at ORF Oberösterreich, has been a member of Volksliedwerk for two years and has been on the advisory board of Forum Volkskultur for more than ten years.

Also new to the board are Annemarie Renz, who was absent yesterday due to illness, as deputy chairwoman, treasurer Werner Thalhammer and Hubert Tröbinger as deputy secretary Martina Rifesser.

Freundlinger and Bumberger, who appeared yesterday despite a broken metacarpal, had led the folk song work for around 30 years. “I am pleased that our club is now being aired and that new doors are opening with the younger board,” said Freundlinger with a smile. Especially during the difficult pandemic period, folk music acted like a “soul medicine”: “Music is a door opener.” Sandra Ohms, who is married to the meteorologist Alexander Ohms, wants to make the folk song work digitally fit for the future and, among other things, further expand the association’s YouTube channel.
