Oscar Awards 2022: the dramatic comedy “CODA” won the Oscar for Best Picture

The producers of the film Fabrice Gianfermi, Philippe Rousselet, Jerôme Seydoux and Patrick Wachsberger went up with the cast to thank the award and one of them pointed out that “it was not an easy road, from the first day of shooting when the crew had to fish the dawn”.

In addition, they highlighted the director Sian Heder, who also won the award for the Best Adapted Screenplay category, mentioning that “she is wonderful from day one” and praised the figure of Troy Kotsur, who became the first deaf actor to win an Oscar and the second person with that disability to win the award behind her cast partner, Marlee Matlin.

“Thank you to the cast; Emilia (Jones): your voice delighted us. Thank you to the fishing community. Thank you to everyone who saw the film around the world,” the producers concluded.

In this way, the film achieved total effectiveness by winning the three awards for which it competed.

The film stands out for the leading role of English actress Emilia Jones, who at the age of 17 guides the film playing a young woman who begins to feel attracted to music and a singing partner but who must spend most of her time in assist her family in the fishing enterprise with which she earns a living, since she is the only interlocutor of the group to communicate with the community.

The film has the peculiarity of having three deaf actors in its cast for the secondary characters: Troy Kotsur, the experienced Marlee Matlin, the only Oscar winner with this disability until this gala, for her work in “Children of a lesser god” in 1987, and the young Daniel Durant.

The ‘coming of age’ directed and written by Sian Heder is an English remake of the French film “La Famille Bélier” (2014), by Éric Lartigau, and became the first platform film to win Best Picture.

With a comic tone carried by the charismatic and hippie parents of the protagonist, the story advances in the ups and downs of a loving but messy family that needs more than ever the role of their daughter as a sign language interpreter when she crosses the fishing enterprise through a situation and delicate and while she seeks to embark on a path different from the one that her environment needs.
