Löfven continues to lose support – Sweden is heading for a new election

The leader of the Liberals, Nyamko Sabuni, said on Thursday that she would no longer support the previous minority government made up of Social Democrats and Greens. Löfven should resign. This reduced the chances for the Social Democrats to find enough support for his previous coalition.

Löfven lost a vote of confidence in parliament on Monday after the Left Party withdrew its tolerance of the governing coalition in the dispute over planned easing of rent control. Löfven was given a week to either resign or bring forward the general election. According to surveys, a new election would result in another political stalemate. Should Löfven, on the other hand, vacate his place, the head of the opposition moderates, Ulf Kristersson, could try to form a government.
