Plácido Domingo adds a new function in the Colón for the benefit of the victims of Ukraine

“We reaffirm our commitment to the situation of refugees and displaced persons in Ukraine. In the same way, culture never remains indifferent to crises and human tragedies. This time, the voice of Plácido Domingo will be the bridge that unites our wishes of solidarity with the Ukrainian people to bring them our help,” said Rodríguez Larreta.

In the concert, the artist will be accompanied by the Stable Orchestra of the maximum Buenos Aires coliseum, under the musical direction of the maestro Jordi Bernacerand the performances of the soprano Mary Joseph Siri and the mezzo-soprano Guadalupe Barrientos.

The musical program will be composed of various pieces by renowned composers such as Giuseppe Verdi, Umberto Giordano, Franceso Cilea, José Serrano and Pablo Sorozábal.

Placido Domingo’s previous performances at the Teatro Colón were “La Forza del Destino” in 1972, “La Fanciulla del West” in 1979, “Otello” in 1981, “Tosca” in 1982, “Samson and Dalila” in 1997, and “Fedora” in 1998.

Domingo is a conductor, tenor and baritone, he played more than 150 roles, was distinguished with honorary titles and awards, and performed more than 4000 performances in his career.

Such a history was called into question in 2019 when accusations of some 20 women of sexual harassment in events that allegedly took place from the late 1980s in the United States were reported.

The tenor, who was not the target of any lawsuit, apologized but denied sexual abuse. The scandal led to his resignation as director of the Los Angeles Opera and ended his career in North America.

An investigation by the AGMA, the main union for lyrical singers in the United States, concluded that Domingo had engaged in “inappropriate behavior.”
