After 80 million albums sold and six Grammys, the band members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers now have a star on Hollywood’s most famous sidewalk and the rockers are touring.

California rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers now have pride of place in Hollywood. Rock stars Anthony Kiedis (59), Chad Smith (60), Flea (59) and John Frusciante (52) unveiled their star plaques on the Walk of Fame in front of cheering fans.

Formed in Los Angeles in 1983, the band was awarded the 2717th star on the famous sidewalk. The ceremony was timed to coincide with the release of the group’s twelfth studio album. The new album “Unlimited Love” was announced for this Friday, the first since “The Getaway” from 2016.

The four musicians went down on their star in front of photographers. Frontman Kiedis recalled the group’s early days performing in Hollywood basement bars. As an eleven-year-old he begged for money on Hollywood Boulevard and as a schoolboy he walked there with the brass band, bassist Flea said. “I know this street inside and out,” joked the musician.

As a guest speaker, Woody Harrelson (60, «Natural Born Killers», «The Hunger Games») paid tribute. «I love these guys. This is the greatest live band in the world,” enthused the actor. The legendary funk musician George Clinton (80) also paid tribute to the band.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers, with their unusual mix of funk, rap and rock and hits like “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” or “Californication”, sold over 80 million albums, won six Grammys and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of 2012 fame recorded. From June they will go on tour in the USA and Europe, performances in Cologne and Hamburg are also planned.
