British Prince Andrew (62) hit the negative headlines again on Friday.
As reported by the PA news agency, the name of Queen Elizabeth II’s second son (95) was mentioned in a court case in London’s High Court in connection with the alleged embezzlement of the equivalent of around 45 million euros by a Turkish businessman.
Accordingly, Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson are said to have received large sums of money from the assets of a Turkish millionaire at the instigation of the businessman. The woman had fled her home country for political reasons and, according to her own statements, had instructed the businessman to bring her money to safety. Now she is suing in London for the return of her assets. However, the accused businessman denies the allegations.
A spokeswoman for Prince Andrew declined to comment on the case on Friday, citing the ongoing proceedings, the PA reported.
Prince Andrew took a first step back into the public eye on Monday after being discredited by allegations of abuse. The now frail Queen had chosen him to accompany her to Westminster Abbey for the memorial service for her husband Prince Philip, who died last year at the age of 99. The election caused a great deal of excitement.
It was only in mid-February that Andrew was able to avert an abuse lawsuit in the USA against himself with a settlement that was probably worth millions. Plaintiff Virginia Giuffre accused him of repeatedly abusing her when she was 17. Andrew denied the allegations. However, he had already had to give up his military ranks and official duties for the royal family.
