With these elements at hand, the first thing the traveler does is browse the web in search of proposals and places. Immediately appear the Caribbean, Mexico on the Pacific side, something from the north of Brazil. Images of paradisiacal beaches, 40 degrees in the shade, white sand, turquoise sea. A generous offer in prices and services.
Cross the border
The challenge is to look further, or more here. Investigate something different, niche. This is where the idea of crossing the pond to take refuge in Uruguay in a luxury hotel gains strength, wandering without a watch among thermal pools; enjoy a first-class gastronomic offer, take advantage of an enormous range of activities and services, play golf on an 18-hole course, relax in a spa and end the day with a game of bingo, to the rhythm of good music (sometimes with live shows) and having a drink in a bar with incredible views of a park of pindó palm trees that seems to be copied from a Caribbean postcard.

In this way, Altos de Arapey Club de Golf & Hotel Termal is the only company in that country that has taken the all-inclusive concept and adapted it to the hot springs product. It is a five-star resort located in the department of Salto, Uruguay with 156 rooms -including 20 suites- distributed in five modules. The detail? In the bathrooms, the hot water is thermal.
As in other similar resorts, in Altos de Arapey one loses track of time. The hotel offers a kids club so that parents can rest while the children play under the supervision of the recreation team. Painting workshops, dances, costumes, makeup, board games, walks, feeding of fish and turtles from the lagoon, fishing, foosball and races, are some of the activities and entertainment that are organized.
- There are also activities for the family under the all inclusive modality: jeep rides, canoes, and horseback riding, golf lessons for beginners. In the pools: aquagym, aquavolley and aquabasketball. Outdoors: spherodynamics, stretching, soccer championships, walks and bike rides. The game rooms include ping-pong, foosball and pool tables. There is a Wii room, a PlayStation room, a Microcinema, a Library and a Reading Room for people over 13 years of age.
The chargeable activities include visits to Olivares Salta and Bodega Bertolini & Brogolio; boat rides on the Arapey River; dorado fishing in the Uruguay River; visit to the Free Shops in the city of Bella Unión and private golf lessons.
The gastronomy
The gastronomic proposal of the hotel can be enjoyed with the “All Inclusive” system, with a breakfast room, a restaurant, a snack bar and a wet bar in the pool, all with panoramic views. The buffet has a salad bar, hot and cold specialties (with “light” and vegetarian options), desserts and sweets, as well as a table of excellent baked goods.
In turn, there are four “show cooking” stations: pasta, grilled specialties, grill and pizza oven, which guarantees that guests can choose from a varied menu during their stay. The selection of drinks? Soft drinks, cocktails, beers and national wines, but the highlight is the frozen thermal water.
La vedette thermal pools
Altos del Arapey – Outdoor pools (4).JPG

Altos del Arapey offers six open and interconnected thermal water pools, a large Jacuzzi and a “wet bar”, located in a garden with views of lagoons and the Arapey River. There is also a large closed “in-out” pool and one designed for children. During the summer, the water in one of the exteriors is cooled for the comfort of visitors.
In 2011, the hotel inaugurated its own thermal well: 950 meters deep, it discharges 150,000 liters per hour, with temperatures reaching 39 or 40 degrees Celsius. By feeding the open and covered pools, the water is changed every three or four times a day, thus guaranteeing the highest quality of the thermal waters, maintaining their mineral-medicinal properties.
It should be remembered that hot springs are ideal for protecting and restoring health: they have energetic factors such as powerful ionization, mineralization, radioactivity, gases and PH variations. They improve the skin, favor rest, transmit energy and make the guest feel renewed inside and out.
golf and spa

The 18-hole golf course -par 73 for men and 72 for women- was designed by Ernesto Llovet and occupies an area of 60 hectares. The total course is 7,298 yards and stands out for the difficulty of its greens, fairways and tees, all elevated and surrounded by long bodies of water, creating a playing area without equal in the region. The course also has a “Driving Range” and a “Putting Green” where you can practice comfortably, and a Club House of the highest level that will allow all those who enjoy this sport to enjoy excellent moments.
The proposals are completed by a Spa with a varied menu of treatments, with sessions of facial and body aesthetics, reflexology, relaxation and decontracting massages with a physiotherapist; gym with state-of-the-art equipment, sauna, shower area, two Jacuzzis, relaxation room, and six massage cabins for health and cosmetic treatments.
HOW TO GET?
The distance that separates the resort from the Federal Capital is 550 kilometers. The way is along National Route No. 14, through the Concordia – Salto border crossing, and once in Uruguay, along Route 3 heading north to the access road to the hotel.
THE DATA
PCR is no longer required to enter Uruguay.
