Daniel Craig has contracted the coronavirus. The actor therefore had to cancel “Macbeth” performances on Broadway.
Daniel Craig (54) has tested positive for the corona virus. The former James Bond actor is currently on stage alongside Ruth Negga (40) in “Macbeth” on Broadway. The performances on Saturday were initially canceled due to the actor’s corona infection.
In a statement: “Tonight’s matinee and evening performance of Macbeth are canceled because Daniel Craig tested positive for Covid just this afternoon.” The statement continued, “We apologize for the inconvenience this causes ticket holders, but the safety of our audience, cast and crew remains our top priority. All tickets for the canceled performances will be refunded at the original point of purchase.”
, as a result of which the Broadway screenings of “Macbeth” have been canceled until April 7th. In addition to Craig, there were apparently other positive tests related to the production. The play starring the Hollywood star premiered on Broadway on March 29. The official start has been announced for April 28th, the production by Tony Award winner Sam Gold (44) is to run for 15 weeks.
Comeback on Broadway
Before beginning his engagement, Craig opened up about his decision to return to the Broadway stage during an appearance on The Late Show. He called the move both “terrifying” and “wonderful.” The actor explained that part of the reason he returned to Broadway was to help the industry in the wake of the pandemic.
The British film star, who has had hits such as “James Bond” and blockbusters such as “Knives Out” and “Verblendung”, has previously acted in two Broadway plays: “A Steady Rain” in 2009 and a remake of “Betrayal ” 2013.
