Sarah Jessica Parker (57) has tested positive for the corona virus. The performance of her Broadway play Plaza Suite was canceled Thursday night. The 57-year-old did two tests and got a positive result.
Parker’s husband Matthew Broderick (60), who plays the leading role alongside the actress in the play at the Hudson Theater, tested positive on Tuesday evening. At the time, Parker’s tests were still negative. The “Sex and the City” star was on stage with Michael McGrath (64).
On Broadway since February
It is not yet known when Parker and Broderick will be able to perform together again. “News regarding future performances of ‘Plaza Suite’ will be provided as soon as possible. Everyone wishes Matthew and Sarah Jessica a speedy recovery,” the theater’s statement read.
The play “Plaza Suite” has been running in New York’s Hudson Theater since February – already with a two-year delay due to the corona pandemic. It’s the first time Parker and Broderick have shared the stage since 1996. Back then, they starred together in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. In “Plaza Suite” the two play three different pairs.
According to “People”, at the end of one of the first performances, Parker thanked the audience for their patience during the pandemic: “So many of you have waited two years for the theater to return,” she said accordingly. “You’ve waited and been patient, enthusiastic and optimistic and we just wanted to say thank you because you’ve supported our entire theater community by doing this and that means all the people in the background that you don’t see here and all the people who are on stand on stage.”
Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick have been married since 1997. They have three children, 19-year-old James Wilkie and 12-year-old twin sisters Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge. On the opening night of the Broadway play at the end of March, the kids of the prominent couple also walked the red carpet.
