In the creative process for a new song, Bill Kaulitz recognized “that I have problems with real bonding and real intimacy”.
Singer Bill Kaulitz (32) takes a deep look into his soul and relationships with the new Tokio Hotel single “HIM”.
He describes the intimate song, which was created during a studio session, as a “confession to myself”. The musicians philosophized about “infidelities, love and relationships and the constant question: ‘Why is Bill still single!?'”, as he reveals.
Bill opened up to his colleagues: “I told them about my problem of always wanting what I can’t have and that I lose interest in people when everything gets too real. I guess that’s my way, my to protect my heart from being broken again.”
“It sucks”
This “self-defense” would have shown him that he had problems with real attachment and intimacy. That’s why he unconsciously always chose people who were unavailable or bad for him. “Because I enjoy the excitement of not quite getting someone physically and emotionally.” Ultimately, he would even prefer an imaginary relationship to a real one, according to Bill: “It sucks…”
Musically, the song is reminiscent of the old Tokyo hotel days with a stadium-ready chorus and lots of guitar and drums. Kaulitz expresses his desperation in a nightclub outfit with a net top, rivet-studded harness, voluminous plush jacket and patent-leather high heels. A snippet of the video is said to have been blocked directly on TikTok – possibly because of Kaulitz’ “fetish” outfit.
