For more than 16 years, from March 8, 1999 to December 16, 2015, Stefan Raab presented his late night show “TV total”. Thanks to cheeky gags, unconventional ideas and his unerring instinct for topics, the show quickly became a cult and only discontinued when the entertainer withdrew from the TV business of his own accord. It is considered to be the longest-running late-night show on German television to date.
Stefan Raab now apparently wants to build on this: According to the news magazine “Spiegel”, he is secretly working on a new edition of the show that made him famous. The show could return to Pro7 as early as the fall, possibly once a week as in the first two years of the show. The most important change would now be that the 54-year-old no longer moderates the show himself. According to “Spiegel” he should already have found what he is looking for a replacement: Sebastian Pufpaff could take over as his successor. The cabaret artist (44) is currently moderating “Pufpaffs Happy Hour” on 3sat and “Geht yet!” on ZDF. However, the rumors are not officially confirmed, neither by Raab’s production company nor by Pufpaff’s management.
Most recently, Stefan Raab worked behind the camera as a producer, but was unable to continue his early successes when “TV Total” had an average of 3.2 million viewers. His RTL show “Daily freshly roasted” was canceled in April, the ratings for “Fame Maker” and “Free European Song Contest” on Pro7 fell short of expectations.
