In 1985 he became a nation’s idol at Wimbledon. But after bad investments, embarrassing TV appearances and bankruptcy proceedings, Boris Becker’s legendary status is crumbling. After his guilty verdict in London, he faces imprisonment.
Holding the hand of his current partner Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro, Boris Becker comes to London’s Southwark Crown Court. The trial against the former tennis player began there on March 21. Becker was declared bankrupt by the London High Court of Justice in June 2017. Since then, bankruptcy proceedings have been ongoing. In this context, the three-time Wimbledon winner had to answer to various allegations in criminal proceedings. The more than 20 charges include the fact that Becker is said to have tried to withdraw money and valuables, such as trophies, and real estate from the insolvency administrator’s access. The 54-year-old denied it, but the jury found him guilty on four out of 24 counts. He now faces a prison sentence.
