In the Season 3 trailer for “TheBoys” confirms that Billy is gaining superpowers. Those include laser vision and enhanced strength. But that doesn’t mean Billy is going to become a hero.
“That’s the dilemma: Does Butcher become a superhero or a supervillain?” Urban said during an interview with EW at SXSW. “To defeat the monster, do you become the monster? And I think that’s one of the great things about this season: All the characters are faced with that choice. How far are they willing to go? What line are they willing to take?” cross over? to achieve what they want to achieve? For all the characters on the show, it creates conflict and it’s fun to see who actually ends up on whose side.”
Apart from the arrival of Soldier Boy, the big twist in the season 2 finale will lead to the main plot of season 3. (spoilers below)
In a scene that saw the murder of the leader of the Church of the Collective Alastair Adana (Goran Visnji), Victoria was revealed to be a super. And not just any supermarket. She was the one who killed the deputy director of the CIA, Susan Raynor (Jennifer Esposito), as well as all those people in court when their heads spontaneously exploded. She is now in a position of greater power as the appointed czar for the government’s Office of Super Affairs, and is passing funds to Grace to create a task force designed to police supers. So what the Boys were already doing, only with more government support.
The boys, meanwhile, have gone their separate ways since all their crimes were pardoned. Hughie went to work for Victoria, unaware of her true superior nature; MM met with his wife and daughter; Frenchie was determined to take Kimiko dancing; and Billy is “on the edge as a really uptight character,” Kripke joked.
The Seven are also a very different team. Starlight was publicly exonerated and welcomed back after Queen Maeve blackmailed Homelander with a recording of the Flight 37 tragedy. A-Train was also brought back, but The Deep is still out. With Stormfront gone, Vought is likely looking to fill some spots.
