Billboard Music Awards: The Weeknd tops the list with 17 nominations

The awards will be presented in a live broadcast on May 15 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The Weeknd will compete for the best artist award with Doja Cat, Drake, Rodrigo and Swift. Rodrigo is also nominated for best new artist, an award she won at Sunday’s Grammys, along with GIVON, Masked Wolf, Pooh Shiesty and The Kid LAROI.

Furthermore, the collaboration of The Weeknd with Ariana Grande for the song “Save Your Tears (Remix)” opt for six prizes.

The awards will be presented in 62 categories spanning a variety of genres, including five categories that are new to this year’s show: Top Billboard Global 200 Artist, Top Billboard Global Artist Excl. US Artist, Global Top Billboard 200 Song, Global Top Billboard excl. American song and top viral song. Sheeran is a finalist in all four new global categories for artist and his song “Bad Habits,” while The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber’s “Save Your Tears” and “STAY” are represented in the two new global song categories. Rodrigo and The Weeknd are finalists in both categories of new global artists.

This year’s Billboard Awards are based on the listing period of April 10, 2021 to March 26, 2022. The finalists and winners are based on key fan interactions with music, including album sales and digital songs, streaming, radio play and social engagement, tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including Luminate.
