Mark Wahlberg spoke of the aftermath of gaining weight for his next movie

“I put on 30 pounds and went from a guy who was in fighting shape to a guy who was in a wheelchair and had a rare wasting muscle disease,” explains Wahlberg. “I was turning 50 when we finished the movie and I was eating 11,000 calories a day. That drastic weight gain really took a toll on me over the course of the last seven or eight months.”

Wahlberg shared before and after photos of his experience on social media in May 2021. He then opened up about his rocky metamorphosis with Jimmy Fallon in The Tonight Show the following July.

“Even when you’re full, I’d wake up after one meal and eat another,” he said. “I ate every three hours. It wasn’t fun.”

What exactly was he eating? “I tried to do it in a healthy way,” she told her AND! this year. “It was a dozen eggs and a dozen bacon, two baked potatoes, a Porterhouse steak, two bowls of white rice and a glass of olive oil. The first two weeks were high in protein. The second two weeks were high. carbs The last two weeks starches and then sodium, just to get as bloated as possible.” But she resisted it for the sake of the film, which she spent years trying to get off the ground.

“I like having to prepare both physically and mentally,” Wahlberg told EW. “That is always ideal. You kind of say, ‘Okay, I’ve got this movie in three, four, five months, no matter how long I have to prepare. Let me start now’. And I get a little obsessive about it.”
