Will Smith has been banned from the Oscars for the next ten years after attacking comedian Chris Rock.
Will Smith (53) now has to accept further consequences after slapping comedian Chris Rock (57) at the Oscars. The actor will not be allowed to attend the awards ceremony for the next ten years. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced this Friday. The board had met for a meeting originally scheduled for April 18 and brought forward. According to the new decision, Smith should not be allowed to attend any other Academy events. However, he retains his won Oscar and remains eligible for future Oscar nominations and wins.

Smith had come on stage from the audience during the Oscars and slapped Chris Rock in the face. Rock had made a joke about Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith (50), before the slap. Less than an hour after the slap, Will Smith delivered a tearful acceptance speech on stage as he accepted the Oscar for best actor for his role in King Richard.
Smith resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in early April. In a statement quoted by The Hollywood Reporter, among others, the actor said he was “heartbroken.” He also wanted to accept all consequences for his behavior during the ceremony at the end of March.
