Because he was caught on the train without a mask, Mario Barth got into trouble with a conductor – and complained in a video. On Instagram, he was classically countered by the company.
That backfired: Mario Barth was caught without a mask on the train on the way to Frankfurt at the weekend – and thrown off the train by a train attendant. The situation is documented because the comedian started a live stream and then posted the 45-minute video on Instagram.
Barth obviously sees himself in the right. The 49-year-old commented on the clip with the words: “It really happened. My expulsion from the Deutsche Bahn ICE. The full-length live video is here now. Have fun.”
However, he did not only receive encouragement from his followers. “Inform first, then mocker,” commented a user. Another wrote: “Does Mr. Barth need a handkerchief? How can you make yourself so important with such a worn-out story? Embarrassing and anything but funny.”
Mario Barth faces headwind
Probably the most snappy counterattack came from Deutsche Bahn: “Masks are compulsory on our trains, do you know?” The company posted, alluding to Barth’s most famous saying.
Otherwise, the whole affair did not end so well for Barth: As can be seen on the video, the comedian was expelled from the train and had to get off in Hanaus, where he was received by two police officers. Apparently he was not aware of the fact that one could be thrown off course because of obvious misconduct. “That it works like that. I wouldn’t have thought that it would work.”
The company once again clarified the applicable legal situation: “The statutory mask requirement applies on our trains,” said a spokesman for Deutsche Bahn to the “Bild” newspaper. “That also applies to Mario Barth.”
He who laughs last, laughs best, says a well-known proverb. Even if he is professionally responsible for the jokes – in this case it was not Mario Barth who had the laughs on his side.
