In a podcast, actor Sam Elliott railed against the Oscar winner “The Power of the Dog”. Now he took back his words.
According to a media report, the US actor Sam Elliott (77, “A Star Is Born”) has apologized for his scolding of the Netflix western and Oscar-winning film “The Power of the Dog”.
“I didn’t express myself very clearly, I didn’t express myself very well,” he said at an event organized by the industry journal “Deadline” on Sunday.
He said some things that hurt people, Elliot said. “And I feel terrible about it.” He apologized to the gay community, the film’s cast and lead actor Benedict Cumbercatch. “All I can say is that I’m sorry.”
In the “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast, Elliott, who has starred in many westerns, commented on the choice of New Zealand as the location at the end of February. For him, the western drama with Kirsten Dunst and Benedict Cumberbatch is a “piece of shit,” he said. The scenes with shirtless cowboys would have reminded him of Chippendale dancers. Jane Campion, who has since won an Oscar for directing the film, regretted the actor’s choice of words for expressing misogyny, xenophobia and homophobia, as she told Deadline in March.
