Freddy Rincón (1966-2022) has died at the age of 55. The Colombian soccer player succumbed to his injuries after a car accident, as reported by several South American media. He suffered serious head injuries when his car collided with a bus in Cali, Colombia. A doctor at the Imbanaco Clinic in Cali confirmed his death.
The Colombian Football Association FCF mourned the deceased ex-athlete. His death is not only a “great loss for his family and friends”, but also for “our sport”. “We will miss him and will remember him with great affection, appreciation, respect and admiration.”

Freddy Rincón took part in the 1990, 1994 and 1998 World Cups with the Colombian national team. He scored his most famous goal in the 1990 World Cup match against Germany in the preliminary round: he shot the ball through the legs of German goalkeeper Bodo Illgner (55) to make it 1-1 and thus helped Colombia to the round of 16. In Europe he laced his shoes for the two top teams SSC Napoli and Real Madrid.
