British Royals: Queen cancels Easter service

Community service on Easter Sunday is a firm tradition among British royals. However, the Queen will not be there this year.

Due to health problems, Queen Elizabeth II will not attend the traditional service of the Royal Family on Easter Sunday. This was reported by the PA news agency and the “Sun” tabloid, among others.

The event is a regular fixture on the royal calendar – as is the Royal Maundy service on Maundy Thursday. The heir to the throne, Prince Charles, and his wife, Duchess Camilla, represented the Queen at this ceremony. In accordance with tradition, they gave away commemorative coins to the needy and to people who had rendered outstanding service to the community. It was not initially clear which family members would appear on Sunday.

The Queen, who is celebrating her 70th anniversary of the throne this year, had recently canceled several events due to health concerns and only appeared in public at the memorial service for her husband Prince Philip, who died in 2021. However, she gives virtual audiences from her Windsor Castle residence near London.

“As you can see, I can’t move,” the 95-year-old said recently about her condition. In October 2021, the Queen spent a night in the hospital as a precaution. Her doctor then ordered her to rest.
