Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan will be welcomed as “VVIP” guests at the Invictus Games in the Netherlands. What that means and what the power couple could expect in the host country.
Royal fans should have marked the coming weekend in red on their calendars. Because it is the first time since the so-called “Megxit” that Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan will open together in Europe. The goal is this year’s Invictus Games, which Prince Harry founded. The sporting event is an affair of the heart for Queen Elizabeth II’s grandson.
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan travel to The Hague
And so he will start the long journey from Los Angeles to The Hague after skipping the memorial service in honor of Prince Philip in London a few weeks ago. But not only Harry is on his way to Europe, but also his wife, Duchess Meghan.
One reason Harry did not travel to England was what he felt was a lack of protection for his family. Prince Harry has been locked in a legal battle with the UK government over his safety for months. In Holland, Meghan and Harry are reportedly to receive “VVIP” status: “Very, very important person”. In addition to their own bodyguards, the Sussexes should also be protected by the police, and they have already been trained in possible exceptional situations – such as a terrorist attack.
Netflix cameras are included
The two should also use their several-day stay in Europe for another professional purpose. As the English “Mirror” exclusively reports, the couple will be accompanied by a Netflix documentary team during the games. It was already announced in autumn 2020 that the two had landed a mega deal with the streaming service with their previously founded production company Archewell Productions. The first format “Heart of Invictus” is a multi-part documentary series about the Invictus Games. Among other things, the format will accompany several participants and the organizers in their preparations for the event.
If Dutch royal fans are already excited to welcome the couple at home, the country’s most famous people will not meet them: an audience with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima is not on the agenda.
