Former Hollywood couple Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have been on trial since the beginning of last week. They accuse each other of defamation. A former marriage counselor for the couple appeared before the jury.
A former marriage counselor for the actors, who have been divorced since 2017, has had a say in the civil lawsuit between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Therapist Laurel Anderson said she saw abusive behavior on both sides.
The former marriage counselor testified that Amber Heard, in particular, provoked Depp with her behavior and started arguments. But she also acknowledged massive misconduct on Johnny Depp’s side. Anderson reported on a visit from the ex-couple in December 2015. The actress is said to have had visible bruises on her face.
Anderson’s testimony was recorded in February. The video was played before a jury in a courthouse in Fairfax County, Virginia. A former assistant to Heard also spoke via video statement. Kate James said she didn’t witness any physical violence between the couple or noticed any injuries to the actress. But James also confirms that he noticed a high potential for verbal aggression in Amber Heard. She herself was also frequently insulted by her, James said in the recording.
Elon Musk and James Franco will soon be questioned as witnesses
The trial began Monday with jury selection. Depp and Heard are said to testify themselves in the multi-week process, and prominent witnesses are also expected, including Tesla boss Elon Musk and actors Paul Bettany and James Franco. What is particularly interesting about these statements is that Johnny Depp said his ex-wife had extramarital affairs with Tesla boss Elon Musk and actor James Franco. She has so far denied this allegation.
The reason for the trial is that Depp accuses his ex-wife of making false statements in a 2018 commentary on domestic violence published by the Washington Post. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star is demanding around 50 million dollars (equivalent to around 45 million euros) in damages for defamation. The actress is seeking $100 million in damages for defamation.
