Andeluna Limited Edition Rosé

ANDELUNA MALBEC ROSE 1 .jpg

Winery: Andeluna

Origin: Gualtallary, Mendoza

Price: $1,095

This wine is part of the winery’s Limited Edition family of wines and is made with Malbec grapes, harvest 2021. A different wine from Gualtallary, one of the coldest areas of Mendoza, where the emblematic variety of Argentina feels very at ease and expresses its typicality.

Fruit of the experimentation of its oenologist Manuel González Bals, it is inspired by the rosé wines of Provence. His grapes were pressed as soon as they arrived from the vineyard, to capture the delicate aromas and flavors of Malbec. It is a pale salmon-colored wine, with an expression of red fruits such as cherry and sour cherry, and aromas of red roses. It is a wine with a freshness coming from a balanced acidity in the mouth. “Malbec is an essential verb in our current times, the varietal is intertwined in our culture and there is no going back. Malbec transcends our essence”, said the winemaker from Andeluna -and poet- González Bals.

Also noteworthy is the elegant presentation, label in silver and blue tones – which represents the deep blue of the Gualtallary sky, fused with the subtle blues of the Andes mountain range and the gray ranges of the moon -, silver capsule and Cartier bottle.

The warmer days of the 2019-2020 summer considerably advanced the harvest date and led to a rapid concentration of sugar, which is expressed in this wine. In recent years, this label was part of raising awareness about breast cancer prevention within the framework of the Pink October campaign. Throughout that month, with the sale of each bottle of Críos Rosé de Malbec, the winery collaborates with the cause through a donation to the non-profit organization FundaVita.

It is a sparkling wine using the traditional method (champenoise) that is made with Malbec grapes from the El Peral area but with a slight maceration with the skins. As Adrián Toledo, the winery’s oenologist, explains, “this allows us to extract more aromas, such as cherry, cherry, strawberry: the base is made and kept on the leagues for 12 months and then the foam is taken Once this is done, it is between 24 and 36 months in the bottle and then the bottle is disgorged.”

It is a sparkling wine with a very fine bubble, very delicate, with a very stable foam, with very subtle aromas and quite pale colors with hints of salmon, aromas of raspberry, strawberry, some yeast, some bouquet, which is formed by the passage of the time in contact with the leagues. “It is a very complex sparkling wine but easy to drink due to its characteristics, and at the same time very sophisticated and elegant,” adds Toledo.

Winery: Budeguer

Origin: Maipú and Valle de Uco, Mendoza

Price: $590

The grapes (70% Malbec, 30% Pinot Noir) come from Maipú and Gualtallary (Uco Valley). In Maipú the soils are alluvial clay, while in Gualtallary there are stony sandy soils. This contributes to a balanced growth of the vines.

“I always have a Plan B seeks to transmit a wine that is uncomplicated, agile, fresh and versatile. Plan B is change, modification and permanent renewal.
