NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has opened up about his divorce on a podcast. “It was all on me,” he admitted.
Basketball star Shaquille O’Neal (50) and his wife Shaunie O’Neal (47) divorced in 2011. Now the NBA legend spoke about the failure of the relationship. “I’ve never talked about it and I’m glad you guys asked because I don’t mind talking about it,” O’Neal said. “But I was bad, she was fantastic. She really was. It was all on me.” He did not protect her and did not keep the promises of marriage.
Shaquille O’Neal speaks of a “double life”
The former top athlete continued: “Sometimes you live a double life and it catches up with you. I will never blame her. It was all me.” His ex-wife did exactly what was expected of her: “Gave me beautiful children, took care of the house and the company stuff.” She did it all just for him. “Sometimes when you make so many mistakes, you can’t really recover from them.” The 50-year-old now knows that he screwed up and doesn’t want to justify anything.
Shaunie O’Neal announced her engagement to Pastor Keion Henderson late last year. “She’s happy now,” O’Neal explained on the podcast. “She is about to marry a fine young man and I am happy for her.”
Shaquille O’Neal and Shaunie married in 2002 and separated in 2007. In 2009, his current ex-wife finally filed for divorce, which became final two years later. The two have four children together.
