International Marijuana Day: the origin of 420

marijuana smokers they celebrate their day on April 20 (which due to its origin in the USA is written with the 4/20 format). As the story goes, it all started in 1971, exactly 50 years ago.

On that date, a group of teenagers who attended San Rafael High School, in Northern California, got together at 4:20 to face a great adventure: find a marijuana farm in Point Reyes, northwest of San Francisco.

This group of friends, known as “Los Waldos”, had in their possession a handmade map of the location and decided to go look for the crop.. Ultimately, they found nothing.

One member of that group was filmmaker Dave Reddix. “We smoked a lot of weed back then”assured the last time he was consulted about this treasure hunt.

WHY WORLD MARIJUANA DAY IS CELEBRATED

Beyond the controversy that its consumption entails, it also has a curative profile. In Argentina, in 2017, the Senate unanimously approved the country’s first medical cannabis law.
