After the brief presentation of the tapes by the Minister of Culture of the City, Henry Avogadroand the director of the festival, Javier Porta FouzBerakha took the floor to explain that his was an “experiment” that was turned into a short film when his friends told him that it was.
Specifically, this six-minute piece, based almost entirely on Google Earth images, portrays the search around the planet, if only within the director himself, his grandmother who died in 2011, and with whom he lived, in Barcelona, for 12 years.
Without a sigh, the titles of “Pequeña Flor” appeared, a brand new film by the renowned director of “La Cordillera”, which had its world premiere in Buenos Aires and was accompanied by part of its cast in theaters.
Black comedy based on the attractive homonymous novel by Iosi Havilio, the story follows the life of a married couple in their shadows and whose only act of reconciliation happens after the husband -unbeknownst to his wife- murders the same neighbor every Thursday at night, in a fact of fantastic cinema, but that, making a dent in reality, investigates the chiaroscuro of relationships and human beings.
With titles on screen about jazz music, the audience gave a warm applause to this opening film, which although it did not elicit great laughter, maintains suspense and empathy with its characters throughout its 98 minutes.
This Wednesday will be the beginning of the International Competition, with the premiere of the national film “Fanny Camina”, by Alfredo Arias; the documentary “A vendedri Robinson”, by the Iranian director Mitra Farahani, based on letters between Jean Luc Godard and Ebrahim Golestan (the director produced the Frenchman’s last films), and “L’Etat et Moi”, by the German Max Linz on his return to Bafici and after passing, like Farahani, through the last Berlinale.
Among those present at this opening, it was also possible to see the acting president of Incaa, Diego Batlle, and the General Producer of the 36th Mar del Plata International Film Festival and deputy manager of INCAA Federal Development, Cecilia Diez.
