Prince Harry: British press picks apart his interview statements

Once again Prince Harry gave an interview to a US broadcaster. And this time, too, his statements in his home country caused devastating criticism.

The British tabloids are notorious for their brutal tone and puns. It is not for nothing that newspapers such as the “Daily Mail” or “The Sun” have been a thorn in Prince Harry’s side for a long time. Even after his latest interview, the newspapers don’t leave a good hair on the dropout royal.

Prince Harry: British press picks apart his statements

“Smug” and “hungry for attention”, the “Daily Mail” calls him in a comment. The Duke of Sussex is “hypocritical” because he keeps talking about making the world a better place. Harry and Meghan are a “narcissistic duo,” the comment said. The author sees the Sussexes’ deal with Netflix as the reason for the snappy statements. “But in the UK, the shares of the two are falling faster than that of the streaming giant,” the article reads.

“He lashes out at those who stand in the way of the Sussexes’ self-expression. In order to increase his credibility in America and for Netflix, he has to act as if he has a special relationship with the Queen,” comments author Tom Bower.

The newspaper “The Sun” also comments on Harry’s statements. “With every self-indulgent and stupid statement, Prince Harry causes more pain to his family,” read a comment. In the more moderate daily newspaper “The Times”, Royal expert Robert Lacey formulates his thoughts on the Harry and Meghan contradiction. “The tragic paradox of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex is that they express a desire to escape the royal circus, but that’s all they really want to talk about,” he writes.

Statement to the Queen “arrogant”

Lacey says Harry’s statement that he wants to make sure the Queen is well taken care of is “arrogant”. “It’s not surprising that the prince fears he might suffer from ‘burnout’. Anyone would burn out at the prospect of having to conjure up provocative comments on the same half-dozen subjects in order to get commissions for the rest of their lives,” he concludes his opinion piece.

Reporting from England shows that the British press has long opposed the Duke of Sussex, no matter what the two do or say. With each new interview, the ditch deepens. The statements themselves and their content do not seem to play a decisive role. You won’t find Harry and Meghan fans in the English tabloid media.
