Things got emotional in court in Virginia. A well-known video was shown of Johnny Depp angrily hitting kitchen cupboards under the influence of red wine. Amber Heard reacted visibly touched to the scenes.
Anyone who has followed the argument between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard for years should be familiar with these scenes: Johnny Depp angrily roams through his kitchen, occasionally reaching for his glass of red wine filled to the brim, slamming the doors of his kitchen cabinets. You can hear him calling “Motherfu****”. Heard, who saw the video from her seat in court, looked touched and close to tears.
Johnny Depp cross-examined: Amber Heard close to tears
In cross-examination with her lawyer Benjamin Rottenborn, Johnny Depp spoke about the secretly filmed recordings. “This is at your home in West Hollywood. That’s you on the video. You were violent?” the attorney asked him. “Obviously I was having a bad time. I don’t know in what way, but being illegally filmed by his significant other fits in well with the rest of the photos and tape. She tried to hide it from me and ended up laughing and smiled. That was the most interesting part,” Depp replied, emphasizing, “I attacked a few cupboards, but I didn’t touch Miss Heard.”
Rottenborn then alluded to the power differences between his client and the Hollywood actor. “I don’t know about others, but I’ve had experiences where sometimes you lose control of your feelings,” Depp said. However, he did not try to intimidate Heard. “Why was she filming? If she was scared to death, why didn’t she go?” he asked.
substance abuse
Under cross-examination, the actor tried to use his humor to answer the lawyer’s questions. After photos showing lines of coke were shown, Rottenborn asked Depp if he kept his cocaine in the metal box also shown in the picture. “No, but it looks like you could fit some cocaine in there. In my experience, cocaine is usually administered in plastic bags. If you put it in a box like that, there’s a good chance you’ll leave a long cocaine trail if you walking down the street,” Depp replied.
In his civil lawsuit, Depp alleges that his ex-wife made false statements in a 2018 op-ed about domestic violence published by the Washington Post. This would have damaged his reputation. Depp is suing for around 50 million dollars (a good 45 million euros) in damages for defamation.
