3 small towns for a getaway from Buenos Aires

Thomas Jofre

A little over 100 km from the City of Buenos Aires (about 105 km) is Tomas Jofre, a town of just 200 inhabitants that is actually officially called Jorge Born, but is known as Tomas Jofre because it is the name of the railway station, which does not work at present.

It is one of the gastronomic poles that has grown the most in recent years, so the number of restaurants and options has increased.

Jofre is located about 12 km from Mercedes, so one option is to spend the night in Mercedes, which has more accommodation options, and go to Tomás Jofre to spend the day.

The first thing is to choose one of the restaurants while enjoying the natural environment. Then, take a walk through the main square, where there is a fair of handicrafts and locally made products, such as sweets and sausages. There, there is space to sit down and enjoy some mates.

For those who like photography, they can go to the old train station. There are also pony rides and horseback riding.

It is best to arrive by car, through the Oeste-Luján access. Otherwise, you must get to Mercedes by bus and, from Mercedes, take a local bus.
