Presenter Sylvie Meis has been in a relationship with artist Niclas Castello since 2019, and the couple has now also married. In an interview, the two talk about their first meeting.
Artist Niclas Castello doesn’t appear to be interested in soccer, nor does he watch TV regularly. Because when he first met Sylvie Meis three years ago, he hadn’t the faintest idea who was standing in front of him. Meis and Castello said that in a joint interview with the “Bild” newspaper. “I didn’t realize who she was. I then googled her at night and I was like, oh! It was making me nervous. Honestly, if I had known beforehand that I was going to meet her, I certainly couldn’t have been like I am. I would have thought too much, “said the 43-year-old.
Meis and Castello were both guests at the wedding of model Barbara Meier and entrepreneur Klemens Hallmann in June 2019. At the time, the moderator was behind her failed marriage to footballer Rafael van der Vaart, a broken engagement with businessman Charbel Aouad and numerous other unsuccessful relationships. “I had almost given up hope in the meantime,” Meis told the “Bild” newspaper about the right man at her side.

But she immediately felt an attraction to Castello. “When I was about to greet the groom, there was a very charming man standing next to him. And I was like, ‘Wow, he’s handsome, but he’s probably here with his wife.’ I was sure he would be married.” As it turned out, the native Thuringian was also single, at dinner he and Meis got into conversation. “I had the feeling that exactly what you know from the movies happened. Hollywood films are cheesy, but for us it was one more floor. It was like a fairy tale,” enthused Castello.
Since he knew nothing about Sylvie Meis, he apparently tried to impress her with his artistry. “He talked so confidently about himself, how much he travels around the world and what he does. A bit like: Girl, I’ll show you the world,” the 44-year-old recalled. And Castello added: “In my imagination, I was better known than her.”
A week after they met, Sylvie Meis and Niclas Castello met for a date in Paris, four months later they got engaged in Los Angeles, and the couple married in Florence in September 2020. “I can live my dreams with Niclas and then there’s this attraction. I couldn’t imagine leading this crazy life with any other man,” said Meis.
