Roger Eno’s first solo album for the centenary Deutsche Grammophon label is a notable challenge to the musical categories of ambient, new age or electronic styles. This surprising example of how to take minimalism to its maximum power could be understood as a dynamic variant of classical music inherited from avant garde composers of the last century, such as Erik Satie or Federico Mompou. The younger brother of the more famous Brian Eno -with whom he has been collaborating for decades, including the recent collaboration for the same label, “Mixing Colours”. More orthodox in his studies than the former Roxy Music Brian, here Roger poses everything, from the piano to which song by song strange echoes are added, touches of synthesizers – with great contributions from Christian Badzura, expert in electronic interventions of Bach, Rameau and Debussy- and orchestral arrangements courtesy of the strings of the Scoring Berlin. Roger Eno proposed in each track the soundtrack of some mental photos that have been recorded in recent times, peaceful images but at the same time owners of a dramatic character that surpasses the typical “ambient”.
