Tapes of an argument between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were played again in the Virginia court case on Monday. In it, Depp asks the actress to let him go.
Once again, jurors in Johnny Depp’s defamation trial against Amber Heard got an intimate look at the actors’ failed relationship. Amber Heard’s defense team submitted audio recordings in evidence of the ex-husbands arguing. Johnny Depp answered questions in cross-examination with Heard’s lawyer.
Johnny Depp asked for break from conflict
A clearly desperate-sounding Johnny Depp explains why he needs a break. “Leaving is necessary, is necessary, especially between you and me. It is of the utmost importance. The next step, if I don’t leave, will simply be a bloodbath. How it was on the island, it’s not worth it. Why if we’re unhappy, can’t we just show some understanding?” he pleads. The key phrase, according to Heard’s attorney Ben Rottenborn, is “bloodbath,” referring to a text message Depp sent to Heard that he read last week.
In it, the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star wrote: “I just thought you should know there’s a book called ‘Disco Bloodbath’ that’s all.” Heard then replied, “We need the book! Is it about last Friday night by any chance?”
cigarette incident
In another recording, Johnny Depp could be heard trying to keep his distance and Amber Heard telling him he needed some space. Heard, in turn, accused him of withdrawing from the conflict.
Rottenborn also played a recording showing the violence in the relationship. Heard tells Depp to stub out his cigarette on someone else. “Shut up, fat ass,” Depp replies to her. The actor claimed in court that he had not stubbed out his cigarette. “I think that was another grossly exaggerated moment from Miss Heard,” he said on the witness stand.
