Prior to the April 11 start of the much-delayed five-week trial in Virginia, Heard tried numerous times unsuccessfully to have the lawsuit filed in March 2019 by her ex-husband and co-star of Run Diary was dismissed or transferred to another jurisdiction. In the summer of 2020, the actress filed a $100 million countersuit against Depp.
There is a possibility that Heard’s time on the stand could change if there is a material change in the plaintiff’s final witnesses. But that is considered unlikely at this point in the trial.
Elon Musk would have paid half a million dollars on behalf of Amber Heard
The actress Amber Heard had pledged to make a $3.5 million donation to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the money would be part of his divorce proceeds from Johnny Depp. However, yesterday, as ACLU representatives testified at the trial, at least $500,000 would have come from a donation of Elon Musk. It should be remembered that Heard and Musk dated after their separation from Depp.
Musk’s payment is reportedly believed to have been made through a Vanguard fund set up to make charitable contributions. Heard made a direct payment in August 2016 of $350,000, $500,000 in 2017, and $350,000 from a Vanguard fund in 2018. This last payment was made through Heard. Another $100,000 came from Depp and was credited to Heard.
According to ACLU attorney Terence Dougherty, Heard’s donations stopped after 2018. He said the ACLU reached out to her at one point “and we learned she was having financial difficulties.” But Musk had indicated in a 2016 email to the organization that Heard’s promise would be fulfilled in installments over 10 years. However, she never signed an official commitment form, Dougherty said.
Heard served as an artist ambassador for the ACLU on women’s rights. She made her role known when the Washington Post published her op-ed that she is at the center of Depp’s $50 million defamation lawsuit against her. In the December 2018 article, Heard wrote that “two years ago, I became a public figure representing domestic abuse and felt the full force of our culture’s anger at women speaking out.”
