On Friday, a London court announced the sentence in the trial against Boris Becker: two and a half years in prison.
The Southwark Crown Court has announced the sentence against Boris Becker (54) in the process of delaying bankruptcy: Judge Deborah Taylor, who is considered to be particularly strict, sentenced him to two years and six months in prison around 5 p.m. on Friday. Becker and his team can appeal the guilty verdict and the sentence.
Before the court, the charges were once again examined by both sides. The public prosecutor is said to have accused Becker of “bad character” in her closing speech, which lasted around 40 minutes. The defense, on the other hand, insisted that Becker was not aware that he was not allowed to make transfers, for example for overdue maintenance payments. In his closing words, Becker’s defense attorney said Becker was in a desperate financial situation and called for sympathy: “Boris Becker has nothing left. Nothing. It’s a tragedy,” said Jonathan Laidlaw.
Three weeks ago, Becker was found guilty by a jury in his adopted home of London on four out of 24 charges.
The charges
The former tennis pro is said to have concealed his fortune in the millions after he was declared bankrupt by a London court in 2017. Transfers of almost 427,000 euros to third parties for a property in his hometown of Leimen, a disguised loan of 825,000 euros from a bank in Liechtenstein and stock holdings. Becker denies the allegations.
Boris Becker was required by law to disclose all his assets so his trustee could distribute available funds to his creditors. Bankruptcy Service Chief Executive Dean Beale said three weeks ago: “This conviction serves as a clear warning to those who believe they can hide their wealth and get away with it. They will be investigated and prosecuted.”

On Friday morning, the believing Becker was seen in front of a church. Before the verdict was announced, the ex-athlete was still relaxed despite the threat of jail and even flashed a smile when he arrived. His son Noah (28) and his partner Lilian accompanied him to the sentencing.
