Dominic West plays Prince Charles in season five of The Crown. He believed he was the wrong person for the job.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the start of the fifth season of “The Crown”. Dominic West (52) plays Prince Charles (73). Before filming, the veteran actor saw himself as the wrong person for the role. West has that.
For West, it was “disturbing” that he didn’t look like Charles at all when he looked in the mirror, the Briton says. He repeatedly told the series’ producers that they had cast the wrong person. However, they then explained to him that the production was not about imitations. Nevertheless, it was difficult, after all he was playing “a real person who was incredibly famous and recognizable”.
Big pressure on Dominic West
Insiders claim the pressure of the role took a heavy toll on West. And what’s more, the actor knows the prince personally. “Yes, I’ve met him a few times,” says the 52-year-old, who lives near Charles’ country estate, Highgrove House. In addition, his wife Catherine has been friends with the royal for a long time.
He was a “huge fan” of Prince Charles, but he was even more pleased to meet his colleague Maggie Smith (87). West can currently be seen at her side in Downton Abbey II: A New Era. The fifth season of “The Crown” is scheduled to start in November 2022. The preparations for the sixth and probably final season of the royal drama are already underway.
