In a new interview, Bill Gates (66) speaks about his failed marriage and the fact that he made mistakes. The divorce from his ex-wife Melinda French Gates (57) is “definitely a sad matter,” he explains in an interview with Savannah Guthrie (50).
The two had to divorce after 27 years of marriage. They then officially divorced in August 2021. He “takes responsibility for causing my family a lot of pain”. A difficult year is now behind them and he is glad that everyone is looking ahead. Bill and Melinda Gates married in 1994 and have three children together.
“I certainly made mistakes”
In March, Melinda had French Gates, in which she spoke, among other things, about the fact that the marriage did not fail because of a specific moment or problem. “There just came a point when enough was enough, where I realized it just wasn’t healthy and I couldn’t trust what we had anymore,” the 57-year-old explained. She shed many tears, but was also angry on other days.
Previously there had been reports of an alleged extramarital affair by the Microsoft co-founder. Although Bill Gates does not confirm this, he now explains: “I certainly made mistakes and I take responsibility for them.” He believes that it is not helpful to go into details. But Gates feels terrible about the emotional pain he’s causing.
