The first pieces from Karl Lagerfeld’s estate are already gone. It has sometimes doubled the estimate.
The auction house Sotheby’s has auctioned personal items belonging to the fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld in Cologne. As one of the first lots, a historical Art Nouveau poster was bought by a telephone bidder for 15,120 euros. According to a Sotheby’s spokeswoman, this was more than double the estimate.
A total of 233 lots are to be offered up to and including Thursday. Another 250 lots will be auctioned online. The price range is between 50 and 80,000 euros. The preliminary estimate for all lots is around 700,000 euros.
Two tranches of the Lagerfeld estate had already been auctioned off in Monaco and Paris last year. Together they had brought in 18.2 million euros, four times the preliminary estimate.
Wednesday evening’s auction was the first live auction at Sotheby’s new German headquarters. Since last year, the company has been based in Palais Oppenheim, a castle-like property on the Rhine.
