Kim Cattrall: These ‘Sex and the City’ stars stand by her

Kim Cattrall may have finished “Sex and the City,” but apparently still likes to meet up with former colleagues to celebrate.

Kim Cattrall (65) is reunited in New York with her former “Sex and the City” colleagues Patricia Field (80), Darren Star (60) and Candace Bushnell (63). The four stars met at Variety’s Power of Women event. Cattrall, who appeared with her partner Russell Thomas, was reportedly invited to the event as a guest of honor.

The 65-year-old was accompanied by ‘Sex and the City’ series creator Darren Star, costume designer and stylist Patricia Field and writer Candace Bushnell, who wrote the book the series was based on. Cattrall herself played the character Samantha Jones on the TV show, which ran for six seasons between 1998 and 2004 and was followed up into two feature films. She was not seen in the sequel “And Just Like That…”, which premiered in late 2021.

It means “absolutely everything” to her that her former “SATC” colleagues now came to the event where she was honored for her work, at the event in New York. “We have spent over 25 years of our lives together,” the actress added. Cattrall said she really misses Field, who won an Emmy for costume design on Sex and the City, customizing her outfits.

After the second film it was over for her

In an interview ahead of the event, Kim Cattrall opened up about why she left the Sex and the City universe. So she ended the series and her character after the second film, which ran in 2010. Speaking to Variety, she also revealed that she was “never asked” if she wanted to be on “And Just Like That…”.

After the production of the second film, a voice told her: “I’m done.” She never saw her co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker (57), Cynthia Nixon (56) and Kristin Davis (57) as friends. “I think we were colleagues. My colleagues are not my friends. It was professional.” Rumors of a dispute between Cattrall and Parker have persisted for years.

“It broke my heart”

For her character Samantha, Cattrall wanted a different development for the third film, which was planned but never made. For example, that she had to sell her PR company “to a young guy with a hoodie” – “that would have been a much better generation gap”. Instead, the script said she was getting penis pictures of Miranda’s (Cynthia Nixon) 14-year-old son, Brady. “It broke my heart,” Cattrall said.

She didn’t see the episodes of “And Just Like That…” she only heard about the content. The fact that the spin-off is also about Samantha despite Cattrall’s absence is “strange” for her: “I don’t know how I should feel about it.” In the new series, Samantha, who now lives in London, occasionally texts Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw.
