Although the alliance implies a commitment on the part of Elanco to help the Shelter financially, in addition to donating a percentage of the sales made of any of its Credelio and Seresto lines; and the delivery of pipettes and antiparasitic to cover the needs of the entity throughout 2022, the campaign is part of a broader objective that aims to build values and awareness about the responsible care of animals.
Although this problem is not new, it is becoming deeper and deeper. In fact, according to the College of Veterinarians of the province of Buenos Aires, only in the Greater Buenos Aires area, it is estimated that there are approximately 6 million dogs and cats living on the streets and in shelters. That’s why with the “The street leaves marks on me”, seeks to raise awareness about the animal population living on the street and about their rights. In this sense, both from the brand and from the rescue entity they consider that the problem has to do with socioeconomic and cultural factors that have their origin in the lack of knowledge, resources and will.
From the company they explain that the initiative arises within the framework of a program that seeks to raise awareness about responsible pet ownership and health care for animals at all stages of life. “It is essential to be aware that animals that live on the street are far from having the necessary conditions for their well-being and to have a long and quality life, likewise in the search for a modern and well-being society, it is crucial to raise awareness about the caring for animals since we all live together in society”, he explains Juan Pablo Zingoni, General Manager of Elanco.

In this regard, “The street leaves marks on me” seeks to highlight the importance of citizen education about everything that involves the responsible ownership of pets, as a fundamental pillar to prevent abandonment in the medium and long term.
Constanza Gimenez ZapiolaElanco Marketing Manager, points out “Education is not only the transmission of information, that is why, together with Zaguates, we seek to raise awareness about the importance of respect for animal life and thus help prevent the abandonment and homelessness of dogs and cats.”
Within the framework of the campaign together with Zaguates, Elanco detailed some points that we can all take into account and carry forward to continue building awareness about the adoption and responsible ownership of pets:
- Suggestion to castrate dogs and cats when we are not prepared to assume the consequences of reproduction.
- Vaccinate, deworm and provide adequate food, shelter and veterinary care.
- Keep them within the limits of your property and walk them on a leash.
- Report cases of cruelty and mistreatment of animals.
Responsible ownership and adoption is the first step in solving the problem of animals living on the streets. When we adopt a pet, we are not only providing it with the home and love it needs, we are also assuming a commitment to society as a whole, reducing the number of stray animals that, in addition to suffering, represent a public health risk.
